So, English isn’t your first language, but you still want to write, huh?
English isn’t my first language either.
But that shoudn’t stop us from writing, right?
First of all lets get this straight, since English isn’t your first language, expecting perfection is next to impossible.
Having said that, however, with the passage of time, as you keep on writing, and creating content for your blog, you will improve for sure.
Always remember, the blog doesn’t need to be written in impeccable English to be great or interesting.
It’s the beauty of your thoughts, and ideas, unique content and clairty of thoughts that make you stand out from the lot.
So, that brings us to our next question, how do we create great content when English is not our first language?
Tip # 1: Adopt a casual, friendly tone
First things first, you should know blogs are supposed to be casual, you don’t need to adopt a very formal tone, just keep it sweet and simple — as if you are having a direct conversation with your readers.
Tip # 2 : Write Short, crisp sentences
Secondly, you don’t need to write fancy vocabulary. Focus on writing short, simple sentences. For instance, I like writing. Writing is my passion. I write, whenever I get free time.
Tip # 3 : Use Synonyms
Make use of synonyms. For instance, you are reading a great blog, and you want to use some of their ideas. What you will do is, you will replace their content with appropriate synonyms. For eg, “their content is compelling”
You can write the same sentence as,
“their write-up or blog post is captivating”.
Tip # 4 : Check Grammar Online
Whenever you are confused about spellings, grammar in your written sentence, you can always make use of good old Google. For instance, If I write, “I didnt went to school” and I am not sure if my grammar is right in the setence. I’ll simply write the same sentence in Google. Check the screenshot below.
You will find many public forums where people are asking the same questions and getting them answered by experts, so instead of writing a wrong sentence, you can refer these forums.
Tip # 5 : Use Adjective
Add adjectives to add description. Adjectives help painting an image into the minds of a reader. And help describe the object with its vivid qualities. Adjectives almost make you imagine the object.
Some of the positive adjectives are, “fabulous, amazing, awesome, excellent, stellar, splendid.”
Tip # 6 : Read, read and read
You can’t write great posts until and unless you don’t read often. Make a point to read blogs similar to your niche each day.
Notice how they are writing their content, try to adopt their style. There will come a day when you will develop your own voice too, but at first you should take inspiration from other established writers.
Tip # 7 : Write a lot
To write great posts, you should write every day. I am not saying update your blog everyday. Just make sure to practice writing everyday.
It can be anything for your blog, or a random post that you can share on social media and get feedback from friends.
