Reasons, Why bloggers Quit
So, in this second part of our post, let’s try to analyze the possible reasons that lead bloggers to quit blogging and end what they potentially thought was their passion.
- Un realistic expecations and goals
- Lack of routine and planning
- Emphasis on perfection
- They assume they have a passion for blogging
- Social media addiction
- Focus on too many goals at a time
- No strategy in place
- Get demotivated when they don’t see much views and traffic
So, we know the root causes of what make bloggers quit, now lets focus on the possible solutions.
Practical Tips for Bloggers to Stay Motivated
1. You dont have to be perfect, you just have to be consistent
Many people think blogging needs perfection. Nopes. Not right.
For blogging, you don’t need to be perfect, you just have to be consistent.
The problem with most of us is that at start we are too excited and tend to do everything perfectly. And since our expectation level is high, and we dont compromise on second best, it quickly burns the passion inside us.
To achieve the perfection level that we set for ourselves (which is way too high for a beginner ) we become inconsistent.
What we start as a passion becomes a tedious job for us. We become lazy. We become tired, instead of giving ourselves a marjin, the highest expectation level simply kills the joy and passion of blogging (which is why we started blogging in the first place).
Tip: Just start blogging, and focus more on learning than earning. Don’t try to achieve perfection, just give yourself time. And neither compare yourself with other pro bloggers. Everyone learns at their own pace. When you consistenly blog, you will improve and become better and better. So, keep calm and keep on blogging!
2. Choose a niche you are REALLY into
We all have different interests. You don’t have to do what I like and vice versa.
Similarly, you don’t have to pick up a niche that your friend is working on. Maybe your friend is genuinely intrested in tech products and has some real knowledge.
But when you try to follow someone else’s footsteps, you will only get lost and your passion for blogging will soon burn out.
You need to carefully select your niche. For instance, a mother can start a parenting blog as she has first hand knowledge of parenting where as a salesman who has a tech product shop can easily start a tech blog, similarly a content writer can easily start a writing blog and so on.
Bloggigng isn’t just for days, or months. It has to be done for years and years to come, so you have to choose a niche that makes you really EXCITED.
So, that you look forward to working on your blog every day.
3. You don’t have to be a great writer to blog
Another myth is that you have to be a great writer to be a blogger. Most people stop blogging or dont even consider blogging thinking they are not great writers. of course, if you are a great writer that’s a double treat, but thats not all thats required of you to blog.
Your indepth knowledge, experience and command on the niche is what matters in the long run. When you write for your blog, your research and knowledge on the subject is something that builds trust and make you appear an authority in the specific niche.
You can only provide with solutions to the problem when you know the area well.
4. Don’t rely too much on mobile apps, rather use your desktop
We heavily rely on mobile phone apps. From ordering food to calling taxi, we just can’t surive without apps, which is fine…as long as your productivity isnt compromised!
It wouldn’t we wrong to say, our very existence is dependent on apps. So when you use apps excessively, you become lazy, you want to get most of the done via the apps. You spend more time with your cell phone, and when you use your cell phone more, you can easily become distracted from your main goal. In constrast, when you work from desktop, you get MORE done in one go. Your productivity increases, you can even multi task, and take care of many things at a time.
Tip: Only use apps when there’s an emergency or you are on the go, otherwise use desktop for most of your daily task.
5. Create a routine
Blogging is a serious business. It needs dedication, time and hard work. But the delimma is since blogging means we become our own boss, and can blog anytime of the day, we take it for granted and keep on delaying what needs to be done today or right now.
So we need to be very clear with our goals, also, we need to have a proper routine in place.
Just like you wake up, have coffee, bath and go to work.
Similarly you need to create a routine for blogging.
If you are not too fond of waking up early in the morning, you can choose another time of the day, but still you need to create a proper routine and stick to it.
Program your mind to work daily and set goals to accomplish for each day.
6. Focus all your energy on blogging
Blogging is for long term. Blogging isn’t like you work one day and take a break another day. If you want to generate a decent income stream you have to beat the giants of the industry, that requires careful planning and effort from you every day.
So, if you think you are someone who can’t be self driven, rather, you are someone who needs a lot of pushing then maybe, you need to find yourself a 9 to 5 job, blogging isn’t meant for you.
7. Stay calm and blog, success doesnt come overnight
Don’t worry too much about views, likes, shares and traffic. Just focus on creating valuable content for your audience. Try solving problems faced by people every day. Give them a solution to the problem and they will keep on coming back for more. In fact, in initial years you just have to focus on ‘Giving’ rather than be on the recieving end. Provide value, build trust. And building trust is what blogging is all about.
8. Find out if blogging is really your passion
Many people are obssessed with the idea of blogging, but they are not ready to make some compromises.
Yes, blogging means compromising on the daily urges, when you want to sleep some more, but you decide to work.
Yes, blogging means you can spend more time on social media but you choose to work on your blog.
Yes, blogging means watching a movie, but you choose to write a guest post.
So, if you are not ready to do the above, I am sorry, you can’t blog.
It seems like a piece of cake, but in reality, it needs as much effort and time as it takes to setup any business.
And yes if you want to generate an income stream from your blog, you have to consider and treat it like a business and not a hobby.
9. Your workplace should be free from any kind of distractions
Yes, you got it right. Your workplace should have minmum distractions. I don’t care if you choose to blog from your room, your kitchen, your storeroom or your basement.
There shouldn’t be any distractions be it physical or virtual.
Don’t install social media sites on the system you work on or have the notifications disabled.
Give your work quality time. Free from any distractions.
You need to be at complete peace when you are brainstorming ideas or connecting with your audience.
10. Take a day off but come back strong
Take a day off, watch Netflix, go out, watch a movie or chat on social media. But the next day you should start from where you left off.
Is blogging for me?
Well, this is something you have to ask yourself. Nobody can answer this for you. If the above mentioned points resonate with you, then go ahead, choose blogging, and if not, then maybe you can blog occassionally as a hobby and see how things unfold for you, and if you like it, you can switch to full time blogging.
Are there any perks?
- Well, yes, you can choose to work from any part of the world.
- You can blog while travelling.
- You can blog from your bedroom wearing pjays.
- You can choose anytime you want to work.
- You can choose the hours you want to work.
